I got my paint-on big time in 2015. Lots of different styles and subjects. Here is a boiled-down selection of the year’s work.
Horror
I have to start off with one of my favourite subjects. Thanks to my Roman Catholic upbringing, I give you…. Satan!
Akuma: named after the Japanese name for ‘devil’
Satan in poker-playing mode was one of my first paintings of the year.
‘Nailed’ is kind of ridiculous, but I kinda felt… why not?!
Sci Fi
One of the most underrated and under-used bad guys in sci-fi lore. Hats off to Max Von Sydow
Doctor number four never had to worry about blinking…
‘Mad Max: Thunder Road’ was easily one of the most exciting movies of the year.
‘The Dead Astronaut’ was inspired by the JG Ballard short story of the same name.
This neon stormtropper design came out a great deal of time before ‘The Force Awakens’. Possibly more of a visual idea than a practical one. Great for the disco though!
Seasonal
Xmas is always a provider of great inspiration when it comes to my artwork.
This became my Xmas e-card for the year.
I sketched this ‘Zombie Claus’ the year before, but it just missed the cut!
‘The Witch Queen’ graced the halloween period.
Other Stuff
I guess I created a few paintings that don’t easily fit into categories…
‘Dance’ was a bit of surreal fun: the concept of being overwhelmed and out of one’s comfort zone.
‘Spy’ was one of a few commissions I worked on during the year.
I’m such a fan of pin-up art, and retro styling. Plus nothing beats a cheeky tentacle.
Another commission. The lady asked for a portrait. She was rather bemused when this turned up.
This commission was quite amusing to work on!
I’m not the best at caricatures, but this fella deserved a topical portrayal during election season.
